In 1 month our volunteers sewed and donated over 8,000 masks locally. The materials have all been donated from personal stashes and community members. How much did we go through? We are going through stuff so fast we haven’t been able to track BUT we did a little math knowing how many masks we can get out of the yard on average as well as how much other supplies.
1 Month
100+ Volunteer Mask Makers
8,000+ Masks Donated
1,000+ Yards of Fabric
4,000+ Yards of Elastic & T-Shirt Ties
4,400+ Yards of Bias Tape, Twill Tape & More for Ties
We are not a non-profit so we are not currently excepting monetary donations BUT you can purchase fabric and supplies to be shipped to one of our drop boxes for donation masks (Amazon doesn’t have fabric regularly right now). Hancocks of Paducah is a great online source for quality 100% quilting cotton, as well as PurpleSeamstress Fabric for cotton lycra yardage to make t-shirt ties (1 yard at $6.50 makes 72 around the head ties).
Are you local and want to purchase fabric locally to donate? We are lucky to have 2 local fabric shops open for those wearing masks (limited hours, check their sites) with a great supply of quality quilting fabrics that you can purchase locally to donate as well!
You can pick out and purchase fabric and tell them you would like to donate it to Whidbey DIYers and they will set it aside for our dropbox coordinators to pick and up and distribute to our volunteers. You don’t even have to drive out to one of the dropboxes!
